Back to School: Giving Kids the Supplies They Need to Succeed

We worked throughout August to collect school supplies for children within the care of YFS’ emergency shelter, counseling services, and foster care program. Our goal was to collect enough school supplies to help 150 children start this school year with the supplies they need to be successful. With the help of community supporters, we collected enough washable markers, coloring pencils, 1-inch binders, construction paper, solid colored pocket folders with brads, composition notebooks, spiral notebooks, and wide-ruled loose-leaf notebook paper to be able to help over 150 children! Every child within our care was able to start this school year with the school supplies they needed.

“School supplies are not just a child’s need, they are a family’s need” says John Schneider, YFS Community Development Director, “This is one more way we’re able to provide support to the families in which we serve.”

Over 15 community entities, including businesses, churches, and individuals, participated in the school supply drive with over 10 drop boxes placed throughout Canadian, Blaine, and Kingfisher counties.

We feel very fortunate to get to partner with such supportive communities. Our supporters truly care about the well-being and needs of community youth and for that we are thankful!
