Maternity Group Homes

Serving Young Moms With Children

The Maternity Group Home provides services for young mothers and their children who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The program provides counseling, life skills, parent education, and mentoring to enable families to be successful.

In 2010, the Youth & Family Services Maternity Group Home assisted 10 young mothers who had 7 children under age 5. YFS provided independent housing and supportive services for these families. After about 18 months these families were able to function independently.

How Your Donations Make a Difference

Cindy entered the Maternity Group Home in December 2008. Cindy was pregnant and soon gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named James. James developed several allergy problems and ear infections. Cindy has been a supportive mother and shows extraordinary care for her son when he is ill.  During her time in the Maternity Group Home, Cindy received a wide range of services from case management, counseling, mentoring, parenting classes, leadership opportunities, money management, social opportunities, recreational activities, referrals to medical and other community resources and life skills classes. Also, during her time in the Maternity Group Home, Cindy was able to pay a large amount of her debts. Cindy began nursing classes in March 2010. She is currently working as a sales clerk and plans to keep this job until she finishes nursing school. She receives health insurance for her and her son from her employer. With help and support from the YFS staff, Cindy has been a WONDERFUL participant in the Maternity Group Home program and will be successful with everything she does in life.
